Pontiac vehicles have always been known for their style and high rate performance. Some of the 1920’s models, such as the 1929 Landaulette, are simply gorgeous and put on display at museums for the public to see. The 1948 Station Wagon and 1953 Chieftain Catalina are several other unique early models that really differ in terms of style from later models produced in the 80’s and 90’s. Pontiac has seen its lifespan sadly expire, but it had a great run. Vehicles were produced from 1926 to 2010, but recently GM has announced that it is now phasing out the Pontiac models and focusing more on Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC. This does not mean that you cannot get Pontiac parts for your vehicle. Pontiac parts are still available for all Pontiac vehicles being driven out on America’s busy highways.

Pontiac began its run in the mid 1920’s, and although vehicles were actually being produced as early as 1907, the Oakland Motor Company started to produce companion brands by 1926. Pontiac was a division of General Motors Company, and vehicles were sold all throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The Pontiac Spring & Wagon Works came about in 1899, and this company led by Albert North and Harry Hamilton took over the process of producing the Rapid Truck. In 1907, the two men decided it was time to produce a car. By autumn of the same year, a highwheeler was produced. Weighing in at around l,000 lbs and backed by a two-cylinder engine that was water-cooled (this engine had 12 horsepower and 8.9 kW-engine), this particular vehicle was showcased at an exhibition in New York City. Other models were displayed in Chicago. The new vehicles received positive press reviews, and in 1908 cross-town rival, Edward M. Murphy, who ran the Oakland Motor Company, decided to merge with Pontiac Spring & Wagon Works and became known as the Oakland Motor Car Company. Just a short time later, William Durant, GM president, decided to invest a 50% stake in the company, and when Murphy died unexpectedly, GM bought out the other half and began producing Pontiac vehicles. GM produced a wide variety of Pontiacs over the years, and style and accessories altered as the decades rolled on and times changed with the passing years. Although Pontiacs are no longer being made by GM, you can still get the necessary maintenance and parts for your vehicle.
